What I won’t be saying tonight:
“You know, honey, I realize how as a working mom you really miss having quality time with the kids. So I think you should take both girls tomorrow and just do whatever you’d most like to do. I swear, I won’t mind at all and I won’t get in the way.”
I know what you’re thinking: I want to watch some game. WRONG! I loathe sports on television and would only ever watch “the game” in some social context that set aside a lot of time not watching “the game.”
No, pathetically, when I magically get some solid weekend time off, my first thought is to knock one of the 55 chores off my to-do list. And here’s yet another weird thing about being a stay-at-home dad, at least for our family: I make my own “Honey-do” list, and I’m the one who Honey-does it.
Or, this weekend at least — I’m the one who doesn’t. And that’s just fine: I love the idea of spending the day just hanging out with my wife and kids, even if it means trying in vain to get the to-do list out of my head.
