I Want to Know What Love Is

It struck me today that Boo says “I love you” all the time but has never asked me what love is.

It’s a question I fear a heckuva lot more than the ones that seem to make most dads nervous (to wit: “Why is the sky blue?” and “Can I borrow the car?”).

Of course, she also says “concentrate” and “rutabaga” and “wend” all the time, and she’s never asked what those mean, either, so maybe I’m off the hook.

A word I loathe, but that’s cute.

The Evil Genius never asked what “love” meant, either, but he knows what it means nonetheless. Like walking, eating with a spoon, and much of their social interaction, I believe they learn “love” by seeing and then doing.

They know they’re loved, and they know they love, and that’s just fine for now.
