So I’ve just ploughed through my mail-in ballot, chosen my candidates, written myself in for one of the offices (because I always do — one of these days I’m going to beat an uncontested municipal judge). I even marked my decisions for 8 statewide and most of the 22 local initiatives. (Yes, there were 22 local voter-sponsored issues this round. Remember — I live in San Francisco.)
But I can’t make up my mind on this one:
Just in case it’s too small to read, here’s the text: “Shall the City change the name of the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant to the George W Bush Sewage Plant?”
Sigh. Only in San Francisco. Or Berkeley, I suppose, but I think their sewage plant is already named after Nixon or Botha or someone like that.
I dunno — I just can’t make up my mind. It’s disrespectful to the office of president, but then again, so was he.
So I leave it up to you… what should I do?

*snicker* – apt, no?
Oh I think a George W Bush Sewage Plant is very fitting!
I’d say no. And I abhor our president. There’s no point in getting cute with these sorts of things. What goes around comes around, and I’d grow weary of hearing about, say, a dead-end road or the short title of a paternity-test law named for a Democratic president in a conservative part of our country.
Vote no because if they change it, there go your tax dollars to change all the signs, letterheads, envelopes, etc. Lordy government folks sure know how to waste money!
That really might be too funny to pass up! I say go for Yes.
Vote yes… it’s perfect!
