@Amber - I once considered a stick shift, thinking that it might make my girlfriend think I was more manly -- she drove one, after all. Then I remembered I live in San Francisco, and there's probably nothing particularly manly about finding oneself rolling to the bottom of a hill, backwards, in a cloud of burning clutch bits.

@orlund - I notice that automatics often have a little dummy plate right about where the clutch would be... to prevent people like you from wearing out the carpet, I expect!

That is awesome. I would do the same thing.

I’ve always been excessively proud of my stick shift car. Until recently when I seem to get stuck in traffic more often. Then, its not so cool.

After driving a standard for several years my left foot still thinks are automatic is a a standard. I guess my left foot has a mind of its own.

Sometimes I pretend my stick shift is an automatic. Doesn’t make for a very smooth ride though
