[...] So, I have been thinking for a while about all the toys and baby equipment I had on my mind a year ago. The ones that I thought we would need and use forever. One year ago, I couldn’t even conceive of a time in my future when I wouldn’t need a Baby Einstein Activity Center. [...]

Great insight, I'm exploring the SAHD thing on top of an international move to the EU where my wife is from. My job is insane, I'm a Project Manager for a Pro Audio Video Integration company. We have 19 month old twins, Torsten and Cora (boy/girl). We live in the state I grew up in, I've served in the military so I've lived over seas before but in a much different context. The whole thing scares the crap out of me as I currently bring in the family income and if we move the to the EU the role will switch and I'll be holding down the fort in a country where I don't speak the language yet. Some support or a you gotta be crazy would help. I'm excited about the idea of being with my kids all day and being there for all the moments of wonder. Not to mention not dealing with my current job (which unfortunately has taken a serious turn down hill, uh like a falling block of lead. Some advice please.........

Great little essay, Doodaddy. I link to it today over at Daddy Dialectic--and I will also be adding to you to "Blogs We Like."

Hey, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. My list of adjectives to answer the "What's it like" question is half a page long so far, so there's sure to be more to come... --Dd.

You know what? I think the "innovation" of suburban living is responsible for the disenfranchisement of an entire subculture of people. I too can go for days here without talking to anybody. Or seeing anybody for that matter. But recently, I visited Chicago, and stayed in a guesthouse in Lakeview, which is a neighborhood in the city, about a 30 min drive from Michigan Avenue. I was there four days and I spoke to more people than I would normally speak to in a week here.

It is hard to network when the network is subdivided.

I tend to agree with you, but every once in a while something that seems suburb on the outside turns out to have the soul of a small town... But what do I know... I've always lived in big cities. --Dd.
