Almost As If Dian Fossey Told Me I Was Cool

There’s a new vet at the wildlife hospital where I used to work. I still volunteer there once a week, and the vet and I were chatting about this and that. She comes to us from helping to save gorillas in central Africa, she’s taken care of lions and whales and who knows what-all-else. She’s one of those fantastically cool people that you can’t believe are so down-to-earth.

Do you know what she said when I told her I left to become a stay-at-home dad?

“That’s a cool job.”

(Note that she said not just “cool” but also “job.”)

Of course, she also mentioned something about suggesting the career to her husband, so her motives might not have been entirely altruistic, but even so…
